Our Mercedes-Benz G-Class Depreciation Analysis and Recommendations

The Mercedes G-class is not for everyone, and they're not cheap, but they do hold their value well. It would appear that the longer you hold your G-class, the better the investment becomes (relative to other vehicles). In fact, at year 7, the G-class has the 2nd best value retention of any luxury model, second only to the Lexus RX-350. If you like the style, and your budget can handle the purchase price, you can probably sell it for a reasonable amount a few years down the road. For fun, run a comparison on our site of the depreciation of a G-class against a Range Rover-that will be an eye-opening experience.

The 2016, 2015 & 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class model years are currently the best values.

On average, expect to pay only 55% of the original cost with 67% of the vehicle's lifetime remaining for a 2016 G-Class. That gives it a Net Used Value® score of 11.6 which factors in annual maintenance costs, price decline, reliable years left and available inventory.

Also consider the 2015 & 2019 G-Class model years. Those currently have a generally low risk of any significant depreciation over the next several years.

While we would advise holding onto this vehicle for a few years, that's not always the plan. Dealers have access to similar figures so they know that your vehicle has a low risk of depreciation.
